THE 20th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT

Join us for the spectacular season finale — a polychoral extravaganza celebrating the ensemble's first two decades. Lassus's brilliant Missa Bell' Amfitrit' altera (a parody mass on a now-lost model) is the centerpiece, with three motets on the theme of Pentecost by Lassus, Tallis and Gabrieli. In a brief trip down memory lane, we recall a selection of madrigals originally sung on our Debut Concert, which took place on 20 May 1990. Lassus wrote over 100 settings of the Magnificat during his life, and one of our favorites is the exquisitely-structured Magnificat Octavi Toni first performed on Cappella's Debut Concert in April 1993. We proudly spotlight our abundance of sensational singers in several solo ensembles throughout the program as well.

ORLANDUS LASSUS | MISSA BELL' AMFITRIT' ALTERA a 8; MAGNIFICAT OCTAVI TONI a 6; HODIE COMPLETI SUNT a 6
GIOVANNI GABRIELI | HODIE COMPLETI SUNT a 8
THOMAS TALLIS | LOQUEBANTUR VARIIS LINGUIS a 7
ORLANDO GIBBONS | O CLAP YOUR HANDS a 8
Plus, an electrifying assemblage of Elizabethan Madrigals and a special grand finale!

PROSPECTIVE SINGERS

All sections are fully staffed for the current season and no auditions are being conducted at this time. Please check back from time to time to see if audition dates have been announced. It is not necessary to inquire individually and there is no waiting list. We are an equal-opportunity employer and contractor, and welcome auditions by highly qualified and experienced professional singers.

USUAL AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants for CHAMBER SINGERS (24-voice mixed chorus): Two art songs from any period, one in English and one in a foreign language; range test; graded sight-singing test; soloist capability; music resume; interview. Applicants for CAPPELLA (12 to 18-voice early music ensemble) must also demonstrate knowledge of early music and period vocal style and will be asked to sing a third art song from the Renaissance or Baroque Eras, as well as to sightread a choral selection from those periods. Competition for openings, when available, is extremely high. Openings are very limited. Only the most qualified should consider applying. All applicants will be subject to an initial phone interview; only qualified applicants will be advanced to a sung audition.
